Hello
New to Linux)
Can't seem to get bootfloppy.img to read my CDROM or Loadlin.exe to see vmlinuz image or knoppix image. Maybe I have a bad vmlinuz image, but if someone could tell me how or where I could download one. But here are the Details of my Issue with DSL Installation...:
I'm trying to install DSL on a very old PC (Packard Bell Force 341cd). I have a CD Rom, but the BIOS won't allow boot from CD. So I saw on the DSL website how to install it with just a floppy.
Option# 1--> I used rawwrite to create the bootfloppy.img onto my Floppy a: drive. Rebooted the machine, with the bootfloppy.img in the floppy drive. Typed dsl fromcd on the command prompt of the DSL boot program, it couldn't find the CD.
Option# 2 --> So I restarted the pc and went to Win95. While in Windows 95 on the Packard Bell Machine I copied the \KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX directory&file from the CD onto my c:\KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX. DSL Website says this was "Alternative Poorman's Install". So I reebooted it again, DSL boot menu said to switch disk, guess it couldn't see the c:\KNOPPIX directory and file.
Option# 3 -->Ok, saw more info on DSL website, how Loadlin.exe might work. So I downloaded the Loadlin.exe and extracted the files to my a:\ then copied that to my Packard Bell PC's c:\isolinux directory. Copied Knoppix file in there as well. Also downloaded vmlinuz from some site somewhere on the web. Proceeded to make a menu on Win95 to choose from Linux section and Win95 Boot. Linux section had the following command when that selection choosen to boot..."shell=c:\isolinux\loadlin.exe @c:\islinux\options.txt it had the following Info...:
linux24
root=/dev/ram
rw
initrd=minirt24.gz
vga=normal
ramdisk_size=100000
init=/etc/init
lang=us
apm=power-off
nomce
noapic
quiet
BOOT_IMAGE=knoppix
Any help would be appreciated.
