Does the X Window System server in DSL 1.1 require 128MB RAM?
?

no
This is off their website
"# Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram # Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)" So no you don't need it per se, but it would be cool. And BTW, it's kinda cool with the full 128. Cheesedanish |
Nope, should run fine with less, of course the more the better. You can also minimize the ram it will use by selecting "no icons" from the menu and killing some of the apps in the slit. Also selecting "minimal" from the styles will help.

The X-window system in dsl is a special cut down version in order to require less resources.

I've been able to run X with as little as 48MB of RAM. Granted, it was slow, but it worked.

I run X with 32MB RAM. Of course it's not blazingly fast, but it's not like I can't stand working with it.

DSL is a very efficient distro. It has been run on a 486SX33 and a 486DX2, both with 16MB of ram. Pretty awesome, although if your ram is anywhere near this limited you would definitely want to use swap.
