how to convert the ppm picture format to lss16 format in fedora core4 to make the picture as boot loader picture for dsl

Result --> first hit - seventh if you omit the last two

is it necessary to have the picture in the indicated format why not jpeg or xpm with 16 colours?

I don't know why - and it's probably not neccessary, given the fact that you can easily convert jpeg or xpm to ppm.
ImageMagick --> convert is a part of it.
