booting on usb-hdd?

I do have laptop samsung NV5000 with PIII-700mhz, 192mb ram

The problem is my cdrom & floppy don't work.

I want to boot directly on a usb-hdd (if possible). I tried to boot on other devices on usb-cdrom with a burned DSL iso, but this is only live-cd. I want to install it in a usb-hdd legacy. Any tips?

Thanks
