boot to fluxbox?
 

I just got DSL installed to my harddrive. I thought it would boot straight to the desktop. Dumbluck that. How to i get it to the fluxbox desktop?
I tried to change desktop by typing desktop=fluxbox
then tried exec fluxbox when i do that I get
basedisplay: connection to xserver failed fluxbox: unknown error.
su(pam_unix)[599]:session opened for user dsl by (uid=0)

I also tried exec jwm and got error could not open display. My laptop only does 800x600 with 256 colors. I thought i configured this properly in xsetup not sure.

Ok so now I realize i need to do startx when i do startx I get xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/dsl/.xauthority
use the -- option or make sure /usr/x11r6/bin is in your path., "/home/dsl/.xserverrc" is a program or link to the right type of server for your display.
xfree86 xfree86 displays
xinit: server error
xauth timeout in locking authority file /home/dsl/.xauthority

I imagine you are at a command line prompt. Have you tried "startx" at the prompt (without the inverted commas)?

note i can boot from the cd rom fine it goes to xwindows with no issue
