Conectiva installation
I tried to install Conectiva on my ECS A900 Desknote. Installation went through correctly.
After installation I wanted to boot into my new system. Grub tried to load the kernel and init ram disk - the screen switched to black and the system reboots. That's all. I got similar effects while installing gentoo linux on a PI. I dont tried to use grub because, I have some surprises in older
versions of conectiva. Then I always use lilo in all distribution that I have installed. The last version of lilo presents a graphical screen and works well for me. One thing to take care is that after upgrade the kernel, you have to make a little edit in /etc/lilo.conf and the execute lilo The edition is to put the correct path to the kernel file. If you use ( or apt-get make it inconditionally ) rpm -U you could have problems to do the next boot. Use rpm -i to preserve the old kernel file, In case of an accidental reboot withou edit /etc/lilo.conf In this situations, I dont know what must be done or edited in case of Grub, then I dont use it ( for a while ... ) |
Hi Marcus,
get the installer update: ftp://atualizacoes.conectiva.com.br/....0.2u1-cl8.img create an update disk with this image: # dd if=mi-3.0.2u1-cl8.img of=/dev/fd0 start the installation and select the profile "Conectiva Linux 8 (With MI Updates Disk)". Insert the disk when asked for. :) |
Once you get past the boot there are several other issues you will have to deal with. Xwindow, the PCTel modem and sound.
I made a Web page on an install in Mandrake. It has links for a Debian install also A900 howto |
