Switching desktop to KDE in CentOS 7
I know this question has been asked a lot but I've had no luck with the results I've found. I've set up my first CentOS 7 system and haven't been entirely happy with Gnome 3. I decided to give KDE a try but cannot figure out out to make this my new default desktop. I've got the required components installed but from there I've had no luck. I've found posts on this topic suggesting to create the entries:
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"
in /etc/sysconfig/desktop but after doing this and rebooting I still get Gnome when I login. I've also seen suggestions to set the second of these lines to
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDM"
but this doesn't work either. Another suggested solution is to run the commands
echo "exec startkde" >> ~/.xinitrc
startx
and this does sort of work, but it's not a permanent solution. I don't want to have to run this each time I boot my machine. I want KDE by default when I login.
Surely there must be a way to accomplish this in CentOS 7.
