Issues printing in landscape mode - CentOS v6.6

I’m having a problem printing in landscape mode to a Brother printer, model # MFCJ6520DW. I am running CentOS v6.6 with CUPS v1.4.2. KDE is my desktop.

If I try printing any document that is formatted for Landscape from a variety of applications, kwrite, command line “lp –o landscape doc_name”, Okular, it always prints in portrait mode. I have tried this with multiple documents & always get the same results. I don’t receive an error, it just prints in portrait.

What’s odd is that I have a vendor provided application that has built-in reports that print in landscape fine. I don’t know what functions or commands they use, but it works fine. Not sure if they are somehow bypassing CUPS?

I connected the same printer to my old CentOS v5.6 system and the same doc’s print correctly from the OS.

I reached out to our technical rep at Brother and he encountered the same issue. He staged another system with CentOS v7.0 & CUPS v1.6 and did not have a problem. He thinks it may be an issue with the version of CUPS that is bundled with CentOS v6.6.

Does I did a yum update and the version of CUPS was not updated.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue or heard anything about it? I’m stuck with CentOS v6.6 so upgrading to 7.0 is not an option for me.

Please help

If it was only the CUPS version involved, then it's not that hard to upgrade by building a RPM from SRPM package as described here

http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/RebuildSRPM

However, I recall that there were a number of 'landscape' printing issues arising from changes to the CUPS printing workflow and Poppler bugs as these bug reports (and several others) illustrate

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=768811
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72312

So, you might find that Poppler also needs to be upgraded. Unfortunately, I can't really offer more specific advice than that, as I don't use this distro. Hopefully, others can advise further.
