XZ compression not available


I'm having a problem trying to upgrade or install any other package on my server with yum update command, which is me returning: XZ compression not available

Can anyone help?

Zero experience with CentOS so maybe some ignorance here is showing, but the first thing I'd try here would be install the XZ utils, and if something was wrong with the installer, then I'd install those utils by source compilation.

Is XZ a command at all on your box? That would mean that the XZ tools are either not installed, or not fully/properly installed, and so I'd rectify that first.

yum updates do NOT use anything related to xz

yum works with rpm's ( cpio )

xz format package archives are normally related to the Arch operating system
or
as a replacement for zip
