Unhappy sound issue with Free BSD 7.0

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi there,

I have installed FreeBSd 7.0 on my pc. To load the sound drivers I followed the instructions on the handbook and installed all the drivers (I have an Intel onboard sound card). The driver installed was snd_hda. However the driver does not work properly. The sound kind of skips after every 2 seconds. I tried some other intel drivers but the others absolutely do not work.

Any pointers and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading

You say you've run through the handbook steps, found a (somewhat) working driver, but it regularly skips? My guess is you've gotten no replies because 1) you were competent enough to read the handbook and follow the instructions; and 2) it sounds like a nasty problem to troubleshoot. It's likely driver / hardware misbehavior, and a fix (or an explanation on why it's broken) may require some extra steps to locate. Be sure to take a look at the snd_hda(4) manpages if you haven't already. This problem might be a good candidate for going to freebsd-hardware, but I'll leave that to your discretion.

Good luck.

Thanks,

It looks like the second one - inspite of me making all the possible efforts the problem does not seem to go away (I do not want to start a flame ware but Linux was a lot easier to work with )

I dunno - I think I will upgrade to pcbsd.

hi,

I had the same problem, and I managed to get my music to play fine by using amarok. it's in /usr/ports/audio/amarok

you may have already tried this but if not try it and maybe it will work.

Please, provide some information about your sound card, and then we'll see what to do next.

hi JonathanCC,

I am using amarok and still the issue persists (also used VLC, no go). As far as the sound card is concerned its an intel onboard card.

Honestly I do not think I would be asting a lot of time with FreeBSD I would rather try Linux or PCBSD.

Thanks a lot for you answers guys.
