Why no firefox available with synaptic?

Seen the .bod downloads and have seen a claim they are better to download because they are smaller.

But I want the standard firefox from standard ubuntu repos, why can't I have that?

Hi Ulysses,

When you say there is no firefox with synaptic does that mean you are not able to search that package. Did you try to search firefox package in synaptic?

What happens if you do sudo apt-get install firefox?

What are .bod downloads?

They are a special package format fro Bodhi Linux. They are meant for installing larger packages, like Firefox, offline. they contain all the dependencies, so that you don't have to fiddle with many .debs when working offline.

Thanks T3RM1NVT0R, it has been sorted here:

I still wonder why firefox falls under the "proposed-updates and backports" repos though. Is it an update to something?

You need to apt-get update (or hit reload in synaptic) to refresh your packagae lists before installing software via apt-get.
