ScummVM

Hey

I am using Bodhi Linux 5.0 on an old netbook for NES,SNES, and old DOS games for my daughter. Is there a port of ScummVM that works with it? I am very new to Bodhi, how should I find programs that are not in the Bodhi AppCenter?

Thanks for your help,
Will

Hi
if it's not in the App centre, you probably have enough there in Bodhi to download it and compile it. It needs some weird sound stuff - fluidsynth

I installed ScummVM for some Space Quest games, but the experience sucked. It was messy going off screen to the left or right, and when I started into it, I found you couldn't get through the game at certain points. So they had a pack of saved games for download so when you got stuck you could load the saved game after. In Space Quest 1 you're a layabout janitor on a spaceship which has been captured by aliens, and has it's 15 minute self-destruct sequence initiated. You have 15 minutes to get in the 'space pod' and save you a**. It was a nostalgia trip until I tried to get past the first level. It was so slow searching, collecting & navigating you haven't a hope without a walkthrough, and even then I was never going to make it.

It is in Ubuntu's repo so all you need to do is install it using apt or synaptic. No need to compile it. Never heard of it or used it so make no promises as to how well it works ...

How old is your daughter? I have some old computers set up for my 5yo daughters. I found this a useful source of apps for my young kids... many are already available from apt/synaptic, all can be installed from that website with gdebi...

They also play snes/gba/psx games thru emulators.

Thanks for your help, I'll use the ubuntu repo:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/scummvm

We also love the original space quest -- The CGA version is best since it also teaches typing, reading, and spelling....plus CGA looks better :P

BTW My daughter is 4.93 y/o.

I'll check out those Debian games, thanks again for everyone's help

Space Quest was good. I never took to CGA, and was usually working away while kids were playing it. I had three boys - ('Steps of Stairs' is the Irish expression) and they used gather round studying their brother's playing and laughing their heads off when they got blown away or sliced up on occasion.
