Bye-bye Beryl

Well, it was a short but steamy affair. Beryl was very sexy, but she had some... problems. For one thing, she didn't like my gaming addiction. "Guild Wars under Cedega? No way, buddy."

Sorry Beryl, but nobody comes between me and my MMORPG. It's back to KDE for me. Give me a call when you're more mature.

One of the cool things about Mepis 6.5 beta 5 is that it's Beryl-ready (almost) out of the box. For myself, with an Nvidia graphics card, I had to make one small modification (change Mepis default "nv" driver in xorg.conf to "nvidia" driver) to get Beryl to run without crashing. I'm still learning the ropes of Beryl, and I can't say that it's terribly intuitive or user friendly to set up, but the eye candy is phenomenal. And it's not just eye candy, either... having a mini screen...

Getting back on the horse

First Windows threw me. My first ever store-bought copy of Windows was XP. I shelled out $200 to get it, because Windows Millenium sucked so badly. Then I got home and installed XP on my wife's computer. When I tried to install it on mine, it informed me that the key had already been used once, and was now invalid. My $200 didn't buy me any software, it only bought me a license. A license for a single computer. I was furious. XP informed me I could continue to use it for 30 days before I would need...
