Android battery life

I've been meaning to post this for awhile now. I have an android Galaxy s Blaze. After the first couple of months of use, I started to have to recharge my phone during the day, even though I left my house with a full charge. I didn't think too much of it, I just figured that the battery was finally broken in. Anyway, A few weeks ago, I updated my ad blocker (adaway). I hadn't updated it in a while and I had only installed it a few months before (I've had this phone since 2013). Color me surprised when I discovered my battery life increased by about 40%. If I don't use the phone for watching videos during lunch, I will usually have about more than 65% charge left in the battery when I get home. Before updating the adblocker, I would have been down to less than 40% charge by lunchtime.

The only thing I can attribute this to is that after the first couple of months, I probably started installing alot of free apps. Now free apps always have ads in them and one or more of these apps probably has far too many ads. I realize developers have to make a living also, but ads that kill my battery by mid day?!
