I am relatively new to Linux & one task I have been working on is to build a mail server. I have managed to put together a working mail server (Fedora 9) using the following:

Postfix
Squirrel (for IMAP)
Dovecot (for POP3)

The problems I am encountering are:

I am unable to configure secure authentication for mail clients. This is however only achieved with Squirrel and Thunderbird using IMAP. Clients using Evolution or Outlook can only authenticate with the server using plain text. In this instance I require secure authentication.

Spam; I have been unable to correctly configure spam filtering. I have tried using amavisd and grey lists to name but a few with no succcess.

I am starting again on this project but I do not hold out much hope that I will ever get it working. I really would appreciate any help or guidance on getting this to work. The alternative is to go back to Windows server for this as I know it will work.
