Dear All,

My device is EC1260 HSIA USB modem. This HOW-TO should work on CentOS, RHEL and Fedora

These are the summarized steps taken from various sites on RHEL 5.4.

1) Download and Install usb-modeswitch from here

2) Stop All network services
service network stop

3) Remove all USB storage devices
rmmod usb_storage

4) Open a terminal, and run tail -f /var/log/messages, plugin Tata Photon+ and see is it is detected properly.

5) lsusb | grep HUAWEI (or your USB internet device like Reliance, MTS, Vodafone etc) should list HUAWEI something

Code:
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 12d1:140b Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
6) modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x140b
I have taken vendor and product details from output of lsusb in previous step.

7) usb_modeswitch -v 0x12d1 -p 0x140b -H -W

My modem is a Huawei Modem, so I chose -H for huawei mode. You could look into the /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf to try out various permutations for your modem.

8) wvdialconf /etc/wvidal.conf

9) wvdial
You will see some DNS servers after some lines

10) Put these DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf as
nameserver X.X.X.X
nameserver X.X.X.X

11) Now, ping google.com to check if all well

12) To stop internet, killall wvdial

If you people still face issue, post your comments/issues here, I will try my best to help you out.

Hope this helps.
