Linux Notes

Posted 06-15-2010 at 07:11 PM by ubikuberalles

I've decided to use this blog for on-line Linux notes.

I forget things. Details mostly. Like what command to type when I want to set up an encrypted partition and so on. So I write it down on a notebook. That notebook has been very useful to me over the years and I keep it up to date when I can.

It occurred to me today that perhaps I should have have an on-line version of that notebook. It would certainly help me out when I'm away from my desk and forget my paper notebook but I could also use it at home or whenever I change jobs (since I'm likely to leave the notebook behind).

Since I mostly work on Red Hat machines, you'll see mostly Red Hat stuff. there will also be an occasional Solaris or HP-UX note. What you'll see is generic stuff. In other words you won't see anything that is specific to my current job like info about company specific software or configurations (that will stay in my paper notebook). In other words, stuff that might be useful to others.

A lot of this stuff is basic so don't expect any of it to be new to you. Like I said, it's stuff I forget but need to know from time to time.

Stay tuned. I'll try to update this blog regularly.
