Media Transition: Welcome to My Blog

There is a reason for starting this blog.

In fact, there are thirty-nine reasons.

Since about 1998, I have written my thoughts in composition pads. I think best with a pen and paper, and writing lists and drawing sketches are the best ways I know to organize my own thoughts.

Since 1998, I have filled thirty-nine composition pads. They line a shelf in my home office. They serve as a catalog for my thoughts, ideas, and life events.

Unfortunately, they make for a really lousy catalog. It's impossible to find anything, and (perhaps more importantly) it's impossible to share anything without handing them physically to someone else. Also, they occupy quite a bit of space, and are slowly deteriorating -- decaying into dust.

A transition to a more modern medium is far overdue. A blog such as this can be searched and shared, and can link directly to reference material (which is increasingly online).

The pen and paper no longer enjoy the convenience advantage they once did over the digital medium. My smartphone can connect to this blog from anywhere, making it instantly accessible and easily updated.

As much as possible, with the exception of topics unsuited to public disclosure, my mind and life will be reflected in these blog entries. Like my mind and my life, blog entries are works in progress, describing accumulations of data and opinion first, and conclusions a distant second.

I hope you find them interesting, and invite you to come participate in their evolution.
