Linu, Windows and Myself

Posted 04-30-2009 at 08:40 PM by jupiter00

This is my first Blog at all and so, be patient.

I became a Linux User circa 2002 and from those days I going from Windows to Linux back and forward, I had used mainly Red Hat (from RH 5 to Core 7) but the difference this time is that I decided to make the leap to Linux for almost all my every day computing (professional and personally speaking).

Maybe you are wondering what disto I'm using right now and it is Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) and, believe it or nt, is working...

Awaiting Dell Inspiron 910

Posted 12-14-2008 at 08:33 PM by PresGas (President Gas is President Gas again.)

Oh, yeah. I got an email on the 12th that it has shipped. I am pretty pumped about it, but I had to order it with XP on it.

I work for an .edu and had to go through purchasing channels. Now all I need to do is find the proper dell repos and get set up for Ubu.

Unless any of you know if there are repositories for 8.10, it is time to dive into some hot Google action.

As a system administrator its easy to tackle the technical stuff and leave the rest to someone else, however when your a small business like I am it becomes a little convoluted. What Im really getting at is its easy to log uptime, server load, users but...

The whole point of this tutorial is to help with usability, and on that subject one of the things i find slightly lacking in webmin is the mysql administration. Albeit use able its not all that refined. The fix I find for this is installing phpmyadmin . Its pretty useful for user administration and has a hell of a web interface. Its also really easy to install.

SSH in to the system , as at this point theres no use for a monitor since webmin can take care of just about anything you need...

Final touches on an Ubuntu 8.10 LAMP server Part I

Posted 12-02-2008 at 03:03 PM by jkzfixme

Since my first post went down relatively painlessly I figured why not keep them rolling. One of the premiere things I use Linux for in a business environment is for web hosting. There are a ton of tutorials out there that get pretty in depth, such as "the perfect server" series on howtoforge.com so I wont really get into details with installation. That being said I feel that there are a lot of odds and end that make a server more easily manageable, and I despise ISPconfig. One of the most...
