Posted 04-28-2015 at 02:25 PM by jheengut

Hot Question
The hot question on everybodies lips, why should I compile the kernel?

The answer is not simple since it varies to the situation, sometimes a missing drivers, a new sexy hardware that only the latest kernel version supports or testing purposes.

My Answer

Mine had been to find the smallest one that can my machine following each new version from git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git. Any good distro out there...

Updated 02-04-2015 at 05:49 AM by jheengut (completing)

I always have a knack for testing and deploying Linux/BSD distros on my Big Black Box.

But somewhere last week I pulled in the latest kernel, configured and compiled in less than an hour.

Some hours later when I remembered to reboot , to my distraught I realised that I managed to disfigure my lilo.conf file and bricked totally my slackware install.

Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.17.1!

Posted 10-15-2014 at 05:13 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.17.1-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.17.1 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released today (141015).

Build 140831 of SlackEX 14.1 live USB with kernel 3.16.1

Posted 08-31-2014 at 12:05 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

New features in version 140831 of SlackEX
SlackEX build 140831 comes as a ZIP-file for direct installation to an USB stick. I have replaced kernel 3.14-x86_64-exton with kernel 3.16.1-x86_64-exton with support for “everything”. KDE is downgraded to version 4.10.5 from version 4.11.1. All other component software is also upgraded to the latest Slackware version by now. I may mention in particular GParted 0.17.0 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), VirtualBox 4.3.14 (latest, not in Slackware’s...
