Posted 05-05-2012 at 09:58 PM by ludvick

As a preliminary.

Maybe a bit on the recently growing wave of popularity of Arch Linux (I get the impression that many people just reach for this distribution), I made an attempt to install a 64-bit version of this system with KDE.

Because, I'm rather an individual, who loves comfort, I started from Chakra Linux. However, the "specific" approach of its creators to GTK applications (I use a few, and not everything is in the bundles), determined that I said...

Linux in a Nutshell review

Posted 12-02-2009 at 08:46 AM by jaymarting (The messy world of technology)

Users of free Unixes won't agree with the title of Linux in a Nutshell. The fact is much of the book is actually focused on GNU or BSD utilities and not specifically Linux. The book begins with just over 100 pages of general user commands. Next you get info on bash and csh/tcsh, on emacs and vi/ex, on sed and gawk, and on gcc, gdb, and the like. A perl quick reference is followed by an overview of system administration commands and a final chapter on ways of booting Linux. Here's the odd part, it's...

First things first, let me once again tell you I've become a huge fan of openSUSE. it's absolutely everything I look for in a Desktop OS.

Now I'm gonna write my experience down. A few slight quirks, which was not SUSE's fault but since I'm new to it [ well I used it a year ago, but that was only for a month], it was mainly because I wasn't aware of SUSE's way...

Linux Mint Review & Interview

Posted 06-22-2009 at 08:39 AM by erlik

Last week was a Minty week for me. I started with a review of the excellent Linux Mint 7. IMHO this is the best distribution for users fresh out of the Windows world, as it gives them most of the advantages of Linux while keeping some of the attire of Windows.

To complement the review I was lucky enough to land an email interview with Clem, the "founder" of Linux Mint. What I like with Clem is that he is available even for smaller bloggers and of course he has tremendous...

Windows 7

Posted 06-08-2009 at 11:24 AM by pereb

Yes, I realize this is a Linux site, but I just have to talk about Windows 7 here for a minute. Anyone else tried it? I’m sure a lot of you have. I’ve been playing around with the release client on my old spare machine, and even though it’s running on some old technology (Pentium 4 3.02 GHz, 1 GB ram – basically the minimum Microsoft recommends) I have to admit I’m pretty impressed with what I’ve seen so far.

As much as I generally am not a fan of Microsoft’s OS, dealing with it...
