7 reasons why Ubuntu is so successful

Posted 07-06-2011 at 04:01 AM by dEnDrOn

1) A good start: Ubuntu started with a strong background. It wasn’t “yet another” distribution, it was a distribution that had a vision and enough people and money behind it to support that vision.

2) Easy and straightforward installation: From the text-based installer of the first few versions, to the point&click installer of today, ubuntu always had a very straightforward and simple installation. Every step of the installer was explained in a short, yet clear manner that made...

Yea, sort of weird post again, nevertheless, I'll publish this.
I'm worried much about Japan.

I wish everyone will be safe there. I wish this sort of <insert_your_definition> will never ever happen to their place again, and I wish they restore quickly, to even greater state in which Japan ever was before!
I now always think about a place with a blue-blue sky and shining sun in the morning, green leaves on the trees and happy people living there and enjoying their...

Power usage: it just keeps going up and up and up...

...with each new kernel, it seems.

A while back, when I was still running with kernel 2.6.34/35 (and earlier) on my lappy, PowerTOP would show idle power usage anywhere from 10.x W to the occasional dip into the single-digits. Now on kernel 2.6.37, it never goes below 11 W, and sometimes hovers around 12...this annoys me, because it does take a hit on my lappy's battery life (what once was 4+ hours is now 3- ).

The backlight is always at the lowest level when...
