Fedora Core Installation Hangs with Nvdia Geforce Fx 5200 Graphics Card

Posted 07-14-2006 at 08:21 AM by sudipkumarsaha

My specs are following:
A 845GL chipset based board with onboard graphics and 4x ultra AGP slot
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card
2.4 Ghz Intel P4 presscott processor
768MB RAM
40GB HDD, 1 CDRW and 1 DVD-Rom Drive
Onboard Sound
Onboard Sis 100/10 fast Ethernet controller
17 inch CRT Monitor
20GB for windows Xp and 20GB for Linux

I have previously installed FC3,4 and 5 with the onboard Graphics and it worked like a dream. After adding the the Nvidia 5200 graphics card Every time I go to install Fedora Core 3,4 or 5 and press the enter button at the boot prompt after loading some modules when it gets to the part called
"<6> USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver v2.2"
it will hangs up there. I have tried these commands linux ide=nodma, linux pci=off, linux allow=cddma, linux text, linux nofb, linux acpi=off, linux expert, linux ddc, linux nohit and nothing worked. But whenever I
type linux noprobe or linux agp=off at the boot prompt the installation worked and completed without any problem. After when I tries to boot into Fedora it shows
initializing storage_network_audio and gets to the part
"audio<3>hw_random: RNG not detected"
and hangs up there. I have tried to boot into other run levels but nothing seems to be working. Please Help.

    Hi,

try this website for installing Nvidia drivers

    http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html

This will work for both 32 and 64 bit.

    Good Luck
