Why to NOT buy Western Digital

Posted 08-29-2012 at 03:28 PM by Skaperen

Why not? Because Western Digital will NOT support their firmware upgrades:

In this case, the drive itself was out of warranty. However, the Western Digital software and web site proceeded to urge the owner to upgrade the firmware. Then the drive running on the new firmware did not work.

It seems Western Digital wants to brick your out-of-warranty drives to get you to buy new ones. Well, maybe. It could just be incompetency. In the latter case, Western Digital should support their firmware for at least a year after it is installed in the hardware, even if the hardware is out of warranty.

Shame, shame, shame on you Western Digital. And how stupid of you to do this the month before I will be buying 4 new hard drives.
