Newegg Boycott Back On

Posted 06-14-2012 at 03:53 PM by Skaperen

It seems Newegg management is playing games with people. It appears they really do intend to refuse returns by future customers when another OS is installed by that customer.

http://consumerist.com/2012/06/so-do...cy-or-not.html

It should not matter what OS is on the computer. Why? Because they should NEVER be reselling any computer to another customer without first wiping off the hard drive and putting the original OS back on. They need to do this to be sure there is no transfer of viruses, trojans, unlicensed intellectual property, kiddie porn, terrorist tools, or previous customer personal data, to a new customer.

Since they clearly MUST re-image the computer to properly re-sell it, then whatever is there now does not matter for returns. Even a refurbished computer MUST have an OS at its initial state ... which NEVER is the case if the first customer booted it up even ONCE.

If they have this "must not change the OS" policy for returns, then they apparently are NOT doing the proper re-imaging.

So I am now boycotting Newegg until they satisfy BOTH of these TWO requirements:

1. For returns of computers due to any defect, or returns under warranty that covers damage, the state of the contents of storage, including BIOS flash, shall not matter.

2. All computers sold must have the original OS installed. If the retailer resells a returned computer, regardless of the reason for return, the computer hard drives (all of them if there is more than one) must be fully erased, and the original OS (if any) re-installed.

If Newegg needs to run a particular OS to diagnose the computer, that should be boot from an external media, or the storage device temporarily replaced with one that has the OS they need for diagnostics.

And here's a hint for Newegg. As of 4 years ago when I spoke with someone there, HP actually uses LINUX in their repair center to diagnose returned computers. Maybe Newegg should learn to do the same.

Let us rechristen "Newegg" as ROTTENegg until they retract this clearly Micro$atanic inspired policy!
