Put your money where your mouth is...

Posted 06-25-2009 at 11:27 PM by Shingoshi

I'm not preaching to anyone here. I'm simply opening a discussion about the extent we each personally invest in the privilege of running Linux.

Due to the fact that I overclock my processor (although mildly), I am the member of a number of forums dedicated to the quest for ever higher performance from the processors we (overclockers) run. And the one thing that I personally admire about many of those users, is the amount of (large sums of) money they tend to invest in their machines....

Just too funny to laugh at...

Posted 06-25-2009 at 06:08 PM by Shingoshi

I remember reading one of the first few articles on the then new Intel six-core processors, and seeing how one major computer company was artificially cutting back on the number of cores available to their users, so not to violate the limitations imposed on them by M$.

All I could do was laugh. I could just imagine how pissed M$ would be, knowing that Linux users could run those applications on systems with greater resources than they would allow their own customer base. Talk about...

Validation is determined by function...

The question of concepts often arises, "what makes this thing valid? And in answering that question, we are most often divided into two distinct groups of reasoning. 1.) Validity derived from Conformance
2.) Validity...

Large space is required for community board room. Many participants will be attending. Luxurious amenities should be provided.

That's not very far off from what I'm thinking about my new motherboard. Contrary to my mentor Spock, I am very emotionally bound to a Tyan S4989WG2NR motherboard. Given just how large this board is, you really could say it's the mother of all boards.

This won't be my first four-socket motherboard. But the first didn't come any where close to the...

Where do I go from here?

Posted 06-25-2009 at 01:08 AM by Shingoshi

Ok. So I told you about this project that just drove me nuts. And now I'm having to start all over again. In the process of doing that, I'm having to make some essential decisions. The first item on my agenda is, "what do I intend to do with this new system I'm in the process of building?

I have been wanting to build a system which would allow all the developers of a single distribution to build all of their applications in a single unified environment. That means that every application...
