Hi. I'm jon.404, a Unix/Linux/Database/Openstack/Kubernetes Administrator, AWS/GCP/Azure Engineer, mathematics enthusiast, and amateur philosopher. This is where I rant about that which upsets me, laugh about that which amuses me, and jabber about that which holds my interest most: *nix.
umurmur for OpenBSD update
Posted 03-30-2011 at 03:09 PM by rocket357
Continued from here.
I got a bit sidetracked and didn't get back to the umurmur port until after the ports tree was locked, then I forgot about it again while waiting for the tree to unlock...sigh. Life really is full of curveballs.
I got the man pages written and now I have a buildable/installable/runnable port of umurmur for OpenBSD (and the tree is unlocked! Yay).
The candidate port has been submitted to the powers that be (David and Laurent, to be specific) for review. I'd also like to add an rc script, but that can wait. Let's just see how the port is taken by the experts first...
If all goes well, OpenBSD will have a Mumble server component in ports...and if David's work has advanced since we last spoke, OpenBSD may very well have a Mumble client available as well (though the threading issues on the Mumble client will likely take significant effort to resolve). Murmur itself (the official server for Mumble) builds, and David and I have discussed building a port for it.
Time will tell...

Every tiny detail down to the way the date is formatted in the man page is carefully scrutinized. Do me a favor, if you're the sensitive type, don't attempt to port software to OpenBSD. It won't end well...
Me, on the other hand...I'm pretty hard headed. I can't wait for this port to get committed haha.Posted 03-31-2011 at 11:01 AM by rocket357 -
umurmur was committed a few days ago by david@ (as audio/umurmur). This morning he sent me a candidate port of mumble (the client) to test out.
I'll post another comment as I learn more.Posted 04-06-2011 at 08:56 AM by rocket357 -
The mumble port that david@ sent to me yesterday compiles fine and runs, but I kept getting CELT version mismatch issues. More work is needed...but it's getting close...really close.

Mumble is now working on OpenBSD. Unfortunately, david@ can't commit the port (yet) because of the workaround he had to apply for the CELT version mismatch information...but it'll be committed very soon heh.
