Kernels & version numbers.

Posted 06-30-2011 at 05:07 AM by rich_c

I just managed to find a Liquorix kernel that works for me! My crusty old antiX laptop has gone from a Mepis 2.6.36 kernel to Liquorix 2.6.39 courtesy of the famous smxi script. Usually when I try this, my wireless adaptor stops working or something similar.

On the subject of versions and kernels, personally Linus' move from 2.6.nn to 3.n for the Linux kernel is a good one. To me, the old system wasn't reflective of the changes between versions. On the other hand, Mozilla have gone too far! Pretty much everyone agrees that FF5 should be FF4.1 at most! Despite what's been said, I think Firefox could have a place in corporate environments but this versioning system isn't going to smooth the path to greater official adoption...
