I just wanted to write something about what I think is important for Ubuntu and Debian and all users who use these two distributions. It's about something what I have found on the internet and what should be mentioned here IMO.

As many of you know, Ubuntu developers and contributors are reporting bugs and contributing patches to Debian, so I wanted to post a link about the details on how to tag the bugs you file. Note that "submittodebian" script in the ubuntu-dev-tools package...

Linux Firewall does not respond to ARP requests when doing a DNAT

Hello , Can someone pls tell me how to make my Linux Firewall respond to ARP Requests when configured for DNAT.

-A PREROUTING -d <<public-ip>> -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination
-A PREROUTING -d <<public-ip>> -i eth1 -p icmp -j DNAT --to-destination
-A PREROUTING -d <<public-ip>> -p tcp -m tcp --dport 23 -j DNAT --to-destination
-A PREROUTING -d <<public-ip>>...

Smoothwall forwarding troubles

If you are having problems with Smoothwall Express 3.0 getting it to forward to an internal address, as I did, you may want to double-check your target machine. My target Linux box was picking up the wireless router and routing through it instead of through the firewall, so it APPEARED not to work. As soon as I turned off the wireless on the target PC it started working through the firewall.

By the way, I picked Smoothwall because it will let me block external addresses. I had...

recover from HP Backup&Recovery partition mess

After initial OS installation (WindowsXP) on a HP laptop I created a set of recovery DVDs. The user installed more and more unnecessary programs and remnants after applications removal started to build up, so I decided to revert it to the fresh state after the first run. The important thing is, that after creating the backup DVDs I resized the first (system) partition, created another for user files, and removed the HP Recovery partition, because I decided to keep my backups elsewhere. <!--break-->...

I sometimes solve a problem, that may be of interest to others. It usually takes a lot of internet search, and taking information from many sources. That's why it is not easy to find the most appropriate place to put a feedback or post a "thank-you". I think the easiest way will be to start this blog. If it helps someone else, I will be happy.
