Kubuntu 7.10: During Boot Splash, Monitor Says 'Not Optimum Mode'

Posted 10-29-2007 at 08:40 PM by w322

I installed Kubuntu 7.10 and during boot (after grub menu) the Samsung LCD monitor said 'Not optimum mode, recommended mode 1280 x 1024'. I have a Radeon video adapter and apparently usplash does not select a suitable resolution or refresh rate to match the monitor. After some searching I found this solution:

edit /etc/usplash.conf to show:
then run:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure usplash

I'd type in the command, and the cursor would go to the next line and just sit there. I couldn't type in anything, couldn't even Ctrl-C out of it and would have to close the window. It would continue to behave this way until I rebooted. Other things such as the links browser would also not work, but text editing with elvis still functioned...

Posted 10-22-2007 at 03:46 PM by gregorydearth

I have tried many things to get my mn520 microsoft wireless card communicating with my router. I know the router is set right (WEP enabled), and I even modified the etc/pcmcia/config with the card, version, and bind info, but I still can't access the internet!
