New addition to the Hardware Graveyard!

Posted 12-24-2005 at 04:31 PM by Charred

A new laptop has been added to the Hardware Graveyard, a Toshiba Sattelite Pro 490XCDT (PII 266, 64 megs RAM, 6gig HD).

Exorcising the demons of Win(98) has been a pain, as I wanted to try various distros (other than Slackware) on it; but the dang computer is selective about which cd's it will actually boot from. Apparently, it has something to do with whether or not vmlinuz was bzipped, and/or how large the file is.

So, I finally gave up and installed Slackware....

Randomness - Happy Holidays

Posted 12-24-2005 at 12:48 PM by microsoft/linux

In the interest of being politically correct(and just because I don't feel like leaving anyone out)
Happy Chanukkah
Merry Christmas
Happy Winter Solstice
Happy Saturnalia
Happy Life Day
Happy Kwanzaa
Happy Ramadhan

Oh, and if any of these winter greetings are incorrect(as in, 'happy' isn't used as the precursor), please leave a comment, and I will change it.

Opening Paragraph

Posted 12-24-2005 at 12:00 PM by XavierP

Ingredients:
1 blog
1 blogger
Mixed users
Mix of things that need to be said

Stir well and leave to percolate.

What's this all about then eh? Well, since I already have a blog and since everyone else will be blogging about their Linux experiences, I felt that I needed to do something a little bit different.

This will be full of stuff that annoys me. No personal attacks, though, it will be about trends rather than...

#This script opens up an number of programs and moves them to different workspaces to be used later. This script is intended to be executed via the .bash_profile. NOTE: this script is made to work with 2 MONITORS. It will not work correctly with just one without being modified. This script also requires wmctrl http://sweb.cz/tripie/utils/wmctrl/

#!/bin/bash -x

#this function starts up serval FireFox windows over serval workspaces

Digital Camera Scanner

Posted 12-23-2005 at 07:36 PM by LiquidSlumber

Hey everybody I wrote the following script to basically turn my digital camera into semi-ok scanner. I've found it to be quite functional when used with a 3 MP digital camera. I hope it works for you too. It's been a while since I've written this script, but I think if you just change the 2 variables in the code that are flagged with "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", it should work just fine for you. Also you will need to have image magic installed on your computer.
