Burning or Writing DVDs Under Debian

Posted 05-19-2006 at 11:19 AM by sridhar11

If you want to burn DVD's in debian you need to install the "dvd+rw-tools" package.

dvd+rw-tools makes it possible to burn DVD images created by dvdauthor or mkisofs to DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW disks, replacing cdrecord-proDVD in many cases.

And it begins...

Posted 05-18-2006 at 02:19 PM by kf4otn

So, with a half working box I begin my RHCT course work. First step, move the box from my office to my house, after all it is called homework. Get the computer home and boot it up. It goes through the POST and begins the process of starting all the services and whatnot to get RH running. I turn my head away from the computer and begin reading some of the RHCT book. Just then I heard that familar light crackling sound of the monitor turning off. I look over and sure enough the monitor has gone...

How do I make the serial port available for Wine apps?

Posted 05-13-2006 at 05:31 AM by Bengan

Hi
I have a HP C200 digital camera. The software for Linux doesn't realise that the camera in fact is connected and turned on, so I have to go to Windows to unload the images. Now, I have installed the Windows programs under Wine in Linux, but that software complains about the serial port not being available. Hmmm... Is there a fix?

Hi, #penguinslair is a channel owned by myself on freenode. You may have seen me or heard of me. We (the regulars and myself) at the channel support all Distro's of Linux and there users, especially Gentoo. It's only around 20-30 users large. Though we'd like to expand it.
You may know some users: nanobanshee, arcane, NeddySeagoon, WillieDaPimp.

When Do these Guys sleep??

Posted 05-12-2006 at 06:09 PM by Freemor

Well, the Updates have just been flying in. Far too many to enumerate here, Surfice it to say that the Ubuntu Developers are Very hard at wok on Dapper. Many minor annoyances and glitches have disappeared with the updates. (For one I can now serial hot sync my palm at the full 115200 baud rate). This Mornings updates introduced new (and IMHO) much improved startup/shutdown splash graphics. (Nice touch guys).

I must say I'm Glad that the Ubuntu team decided to miss the planned release...
