More Popularity does not equal More Viruses

Posted 03-13-2007 at 02:33 AM by Sepero

This is a quote from someone else, but worth repeating.

"Many people (namely, Microsoft) like to spread FUD by saying "Windows has such problems because Windows is so popular. If any other OS were as popular, it would have the same problems." This is actually not true."

"For example, there are still Amiga viruses in circulation. Even in the Wintel world, virus writers will write exploits at specific software packages that are quite rare; the...

Network File System (NFS) Server and Client Configuration in Debian

Posted 03-12-2007 at 08:34 AM by sridhar11

NFS was developed at a time when we weren’t able to share our drives like we are able to today - in the Windows

Wow what a ride this has been with the nx6325 notebook. And not a fun one either. I started off using a 64 bit version. First I tried FC6. Things didn't feel quite right with that. I jumped over to Ubuntu. Same there. I use both of these distros regularly so I was quite surprised at these events. I finally installed Kubuntu and it work perfectly. I'm not sure what the difference is between it an Ubuntu as far as core system files. All I can think of is it was either the KDE libraries or...

Less Is Amazingly More

Posted 03-09-2007 at 10:59 PM by mowestusa

Can we really become satisfied with less? Our current culture encourages us to never be satisfied with less. Our current culture wants us to consume more and more. I guess that is why our economy is so driven by consumers.

In my computing life, I often have felt as if more would make me happier, more productive, and help me get things done faster. However, Linux and its powerful command line is helping me rethink my past ideas about using the computer. Today is the perfect example....
