Linux From Scratch by a newbie, part deux...

Posted 12-30-2006 at 03:29 AM by threekgtvr4

Well, since the last entry, I completed LFS 6.1.1 successfully. I then realized that I was WAY to new to Linux to actually do anything with it. So I trashed it, installed Debian. I got to play with that Distro for about a month before my HD decided it wanted to take a crap. So about a month ago I got SimplyMEPIS installed and haven't used WinD'OHs since (well, except for my scanner ::shrugs:: whatcha gonna do??? lol).

So, I'm back to trying Linux From Scratch again, but this time...

Rip CD to FLAC, then convert FLAC to Ogg Vorbis

Posted 12-29-2006 at 10:03 AM by Caysho

Assuming you want a FLAC copy, of course.
Use any good ripper app to extract to FLAC.
I'm currently using Sound Juicer, but under OpenSuSE I was using another one from the Gnome suite (called something like XCDRipper, which was more configurable than Sound Juicer).
Then, I found a script to convert to MP3, which I modified.

SSH your Debian servers without password

Posted 12-29-2006 at 06:22 AM by sridhar11

Secure Shell is a program to log into another computer over a network, to execute commands in a remote machine, and to move files from one machine to another. It provides strong authentication and secure communications over unsecure channels. It is intended as a replacement for telnet, rlogin, rsh, and rcp. For SSH2, there is a replacement for FTP: sftp. This might be useful if you are trying to connect everytime to your server remotely.
