Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest kernel – 3.9.6!

Posted 06-16-2013 at 10:27 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.0 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk , SlackEX, Exton|Defender and Exton-Slack. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.9.6-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.9.6 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released 20130613.

When a process has ended, signals are emitted to it's parent to indicate that the process is done. This does not delete the process however, information about the process remains with the system until such time as the parent checks that signal. The process becomes a zombie until the exit signal is checked.

The reason for this is closure.

Rather than have that process go away and never give an understanding as to why it went away, it stays as a zombie so that the parent...

Raspberry Pi web server

Posted 06-13-2013 at 03:10 PM by Pyplate

I signed up to LQ a few days ago. I'm going to use this blog to document progress with my various projects.

I'm about a third of the way through writing a CMS in Python. The front end works quite well. It has built-in caching support and some SEO friendly features like meta page descriptions and tags. I've started on the back end, and I have a lot of work to do on it.

I'm hosting a web site on a Raspberry Pi, a small computer with an ARM11 processor running at...
