Posted 12-02-2008 at 08:30 PM by vectordrake

I'm going to try and install Arch Linux again. I really enjoyed having it on my computer before. It was snappy and relatively easy to install. I had first installed it with Fluxbox and quickly moved to XFCE, which I had for a short while. After that, I gave the KDEmod a try and I really liked what that could do. But, I am really liking Gnome lately for the reasons that I liked KDE before, so I might try to get a Gnome system running. Perhaps, I will see how functional I can make it, as far...

Script to require password change at next login

Posted 12-02-2008 at 06:11 PM by camh

Hi all,

I wrote up this little script to force a password change to a user account on next login. I've found it helpful when doing user administration, since I've found that users generally don't change their passwords unless you force it, and linux doesn't have a 'built-in' script to do so.

if [ "$(whoami)" != 'root' ]; then
   echo "This program must be run as root"

applies to, Linux, Windows, Python, XML

Recently I try to develop modules for already existing, big project using Python and The application is meant to work both under Linux and Windows. Unfortunately, it is not easy.

There are a ton of tutorials out there that get pretty in depth, such as "the perfect server" series on so I wont really get into details with installation. That being said I feel that there are a lot of odds and end that make a server more easily manageable, and I despise ISPconfig. One of the most...

I have been running lenny on a p4 box. I want to be able to encode using avidemux and x264. Apparently lenny and their derivatives have some dependency issues when trying to setup an encoding box using the latest apps, mainly mplayer, avidemux and x264. so if i am going to have to compile a bunch of crap anyway i will use Slackware and rely heavily on

i have
  • installed Slackware 12.1
  • updated Slackware
  • added dri intel i810
  • fixed scroll
