Early Linux days

Posted 04-03-2010 at 03:24 AM by bdeye

Earliest Linux was DSL on a 128 Meg pen drive - only used 60 something Mb.

Amazing! An OS so small but - what to do with it? Also a general question from people who didn't know or care what an OS was.

Later much later - I'm the type who doesn't like not knowing how things work. Hate seeing an application without being able to use it for anything useful. Early suspicions were that Linux was like betamax - good but missed the boat to the huge MS corp.

Misty...

Future-Proof journal

Posted 04-03-2010 at 12:18 AM by William (Dthdealer) (Whaling the FOSS)

Template for a future-proof journal in HTML and CSS. Future proof for the file is practically plain text and if in the future W3C finally loses its grip and web browsers disappear as we know them, you can still extract your information.

This follows my comment on Penguinator's blog post on Plain Text

There are three basic files
  1. The index
  2. An example journal entry
  3. The CSS file handling all styles for the journal

Pop each into their filenames in the same directory...

Going nuts with Linux!

Updated 04-02-2010 at 11:21 PM by BOSCO54 (extra line...)

I have decided to learn what Linux is up to. I bought one of those Dummie books and there starts the pain!!! The man who wrote the book is pretty enthusiastic about Linux... Here is a load of mean tricks that I faced at the very first:

- The burning CD software (SONIC) was not able to burn the image CD that comes with the book.
- Tried to use another computer and, after 15 minutes of waiting time, when I thought that everything would be fine, there comes the glitch message...
