Saving Power on Intel Hardware Using Powertop

Posted 01-08-2008 at 04:06 AM by sridhar11

PowerTOP is a Linux tool that finds the software component(s) that make your laptop use more power than necessary while it
is idle. As of Linux kernel version 2.6.21, the kernel no longer has a fixed 1000Hz timer tick. This will (in theory) give
a huge power savings because the CPU stays in low power mode for longer periods of time during system idle.

ssh on multiple servers Using cluster ssh

Posted 01-08-2008 at 04:05 AM by sridhar11

Cluster SSH opens terminal windows with connections to specified hosts and an administration console. Any text typed into
the administration console is replicated to all other connected and active windows. This tool is intended for, but not
limited to, cluster administration where the same configuration or commands must be run on each node within the cluster. Performing these commands all at once via this tool ensures all nodes are kept in sync.
