HELP????

Is there any hope out there for a "NEWBIE.

All I want is to connect to the net and load programmes I am currently using. If I cant connect to the net or install the UBUNTU programmes i downloaded for UBUNTU from Windows internet, is there any use???"

Is there any place to find easy assistance or help for Ubuntu problems.

I have spent 6 days inbetween trying to load a modem or other programmes with no suitable assistance?

Any suggestions??
