Booting into xdm, kdm or gdm with Slackware

Posted 05-25-2008 at 01:04 AM by shannonbay

Edit /etc/inittab to boot into runlevel 4

runlevel 4 kills all the gettys except 6 for cli and 3 or 7 for X.

Then edit /etc/rd.d/rc.4 to choose your desktop manager.

Recommend the slackbook for more info.

To make the gateway permanent, you will need to add that line to rc.d - since rc.inet1 contained code that is supposed to make this happen anyway, I edited the top of the file to remove the case statements on the variable assignments.
