Require Password Change script v2.

Posted 12-16-2008 at 07:11 PM by camh
Updated 12-16-2008 at 07:13 PM by camh (changed title to be more accurate)

Here is the second version of my required password change script. Added automated salt and password generation functionality, and removed the use of temp files.

If anyone knows how this can be optimized or improved, please comment. I'm still learning bash scripting and any help is appreciated.

Xbox 360, the reason I will never buy another Xbox * ever again

Posted 12-16-2008 at 03:13 PM by H_TeXMeX_H
Updated 12-16-2008 at 03:28 PM by H_TeXMeX_H (moved to hardware section)

First, let me start out by saying that I should have never bought an Xbox (regular not 360). I think M$ designs these so that they last only as much as the factory warranty, then they break. This is what happened with my first Xbox, which I got for my birthday long ago. When it broke and I realized it was out of warranty, it pissed me off, so I took it apart. What I saw was that one of the capacitors had exploded. So, for my next birthday, guess what I got, another Xbox.

Some time...

Part 2, php and setting up Apache2

Create test.php:
Test with localhost/test.php.

Does not work. At this point I simply edit my /etc/httpd/httpd.conf file, after backing it up, of course.

My first item is to clean out all the comments. Since most of the work I do now is by an ssh shell (too many computers, not enough monitors) I can have one session open for editing and another session open for reading the comments, looking at man pages,...

Silly trick to keep cleartext passwords off your hard-drive...

I "inherited" a password list for the servers I maintain. It's huge. I don't think I could memorize them all if I tried. Seriously, 200+ something machines, each with a root or administrator password, postgres or sa password, and user passwords for standard services? I'd do good to remember the passwords for *one* machine...

So I get this bright idea...I certainly don't want to store them electronically in plaintext without some safety desktop machine...
