Smile everyone!

I downloaded a program called "Smile" I think it stands for "Slideshow Maker In a Linux Environment". The program just comes in an archive, which you extract anywhere you want, open the folder and double click in the "smile" icon.

The program is supposed to really easy to use with a pleasant interface; if you get it to work? When you start the program it's supposed to tell you what dependancies are missing, not for me anyway! I clicked on the icon and,...

The Hugos for fiction skipped a[nother] year in 1957, when only magazine awards were given. And so we come to 1958, and Fritz Leiber, and the short novel The Big Time, another one I managed to miss as a younger person.

It seems rather unfair to gripe that The Big Time comes off a bit stagy, since it is difficult to escape the sense that Leiber meant it that way. He was the son of a Shakespearean actor & appeared in a few films himself, and the theatre is a kind of low-level background...

Yeah, I am testing out Windows 7, because I enjoy testing new things out.

One of the irks was that I had delete all the partitions I had in order to install this spoiled child. Creating a partition in free space of 100GB of a 200GB drive (50GB was used for Linux, and another for another installation of Windows) would yield nothing but errors.

Deleting of the other Windows partition would allow me to create a partition of that space. But to create a partition in the...

Wellcome to perfect defeat?

In ancient Chinese classification "perfect victory" is one when the defeated side does not know there was a battle and it has been defeated. Using that as the definition of "perfect defeat", I wonder if desktop Linux is heading one.
