Webcam in Ubuntu

Posted 05-18-2009 at 10:49 AM by uinseann

I have a cheap webcam I bought last year! it's a Mikomi 1.3mp webcam with mic. When I type "lsusb" I get this "0c45:612c Microdia PC Camera (SN9C110)". It won't work with Kopete, but it will work with Ekiga?.

I am thinking of buying a Logitech Quickcam 3500. I get conflicting opinions from the web, some say it will work some say it won't. Even Logitechs website confuses the situation (well it does me). I am not knocking Logitech though because I think it's great...

A bit like a long-term Windows user must feel on first using GNU/Linux. At least I have Cygwin to give some sense of familiarity. There's no doubt that I feel more at home on Linux, in particular Slackware, than I do on Windows. But, having said that, I still intend to keep XP, for the sake of variety. Posted 05-15-2009 at 07:45 PM by Moorlie

This turned out to be easier than I hoped. It turns out that the Wubi install of Ubuntu that I am using has all the package repositories I needed to install Sun Java 6 JDK. The following command was all that was required:

sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre sun-java6-jdk
