Updated 10-22-2015 at 02:26 PM by exton (MORE INFO)

Exton|OS build 151022 is based on Ubuntu 15.10 64 bit released today (October 22, 2015) and Debian Jessie (Debian 8.1). Exton|OSs ISO file is a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive. You can then even run Exton|OS from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence!

NEWS 151022
A new and much better version of Exton|OS is ready. I have replaced kernel 4.0.0-4-exton with kernel 4.2.0-16-exton...

Upgrade of 2003 machine to Debian 8 -- a bumpy ride

Posted 10-19-2015 at 11:53 AM by flshope

The 2003 machine was born with Red Hat 9, migrated to Ubuntu, and finally to Debian 7 last December when Ubuntu dropped support for the display card.

Yesterday, after much study of the release notes,

I decided to proceed with the upgrade...

I've seen people struggling with this on the web and decided to write a short 'blog' on the subject - hopefully some will find this useful. Before we begin, please note that this is not a professional guide, wiki, manual, documentation, nor am I providing guarantees of any kind. If you stumble across this article in a few years time, follow it and break your system - or hose your employers server(s) and get sacked - it's your fault.

Updated 10-18-2015 at 04:35 PM by exton (More INFO)

I have made two new versions of ExTiX The Ultimate Linux System. I call them ExTiX 15.4 LXQt Live DVD respectively ExTiX 15.4 KDE Live DVD. (The previous version was 15.3).

ExTiX 15.4 LXQt/KDE Live DVD 64bit is based on Debian 8.1 Jessie/Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). After removing Unity I have installed LXQt 0.9.0 respectively KDE Frameworks 5.15.0 with KDE 4.15. LXQt is the Qt port and the upcoming version...

The Linux Crusade

Posted 10-15-2015 at 11:00 PM by Randicus Draco Albus

It is encouraging that the Linux religion is thriving. The contingent of missionaries embarking on the crusade to convert the computer heathens to the one true operating system continues to grow at a healthy rate.
(In case there is any doubt, yes, that is sarcasm.)

From what I see on various fora, it seems that the mentality of the Cult of Ubuntu is spreading vigorously throughout the rest of Linuxdom. Missionary zeal used to be restricted to the fantasy of a world dominated by...
