When "walk" becomes "whee"

Headed out the door and ended up skiing down my lawn this morning before work (steep lawn + heavy backpack + very slick mossy ground = me on my back, but not until I built up enough speed to actually do some damage to myself and the lawn). By the time I got home tonight from work, my back was hurting bad enough for me to take a few pain killers. They've definitely kicked in, it's getting late, and I think I have too much going on at the same time.

I'm building OpenBSD-STABLE on...

It seems that sharing the config folder of chromium via symlink isn't a good idea

Short story shorter: two Debian 8 installs on the same PC, different HDs, same username of an user. Why not just symlink /home/user/.config/chromium in the new install? Well, it seems your extensions and their data get erased.

Story's moral: do backups of such folders first. Even if it works with mozilla (if I recall), Google could well be "nah, we better delete this stuff".

mpd/mpc is always a headache

Posted 02-05-2015 at 07:33 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

Man, I think that it has been something like 4x1 the score of times it got me lots of trouble to make it work versus the times it just worked, or almost so (I don't like that it runs as root by default so I probably changed it).

I'm not asking for help, just ranting -- I can google, there are lots of threads all around the internet with similar error messages. But unfortunately it seems that there's no universal fix. Even though the error messages are the same, there might be a handful...

Am I crazy? A lot of people say so, and they can't all be wrong.
I was so impressed by my recently acquired Thinkpad (T 410), that I've bought another one. A refurbished X 200: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, 9 cell battery. All for £83. The only thing wrong with it was that it had Vista Business edition installed, but that was easily cured. It's now feeling a lot healthier running Slackware 14.1.

reinstalling slackware

I always have a knack for testing and deploying Linux/BSD distros on my Big Black Box.

But somewhere last week I pulled in the latest kernel, configured and compiled in less than an hour.

Some hours later when I remembered to reboot , to my distraught I realised that I managed to disfigure my lilo.conf file and bricked totally my slackware install.

Most of my time was lost into finding a good ide cable for my old 500GB hard disk and when I found one...
