Greetings !

I thought that I would start my blog on Linux Questions with a short entry describing my Linux interests.

I'm interested in a wide variety of Linux distributions running on old to very old hardware. The distributions include early incarnations of red Hat and Mandrake, SUSE, Knoppix, Debian, Gentoo, and others.

Open Source Software

I got fed up with Microsoft and Windows constantly crashing, programs failing to work, and all the broken promises by Microsoft that each new software version was going to fix all the problems of the past.

Then I tried Linux (originally back in the late 1990s) and more recently after getting annoyed with Windows XP.

I have so far found that open source software (OSS) can certainly be of a high enough quality to compete with paid-for software from the likes of Microsoft...

youtube-dl is a small free opensource command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com. youtube-dl is a platform independent tool that works on UNIX, Linux, Mac OSX and Windows. The latest version of Youtube-dl is 2008.08.09 and requires the Python interpreter, version 2.4 or later.

So many distros...

Ubuntu-->Slackware-->Arch...

I started off on Ubuntu and got to know Linux in what I feel is its least complicated form. Everything was nicely compiled for me from after downloading from the universe, almost never had to touch the console, nice GUI to log in with and shutdown with… utterly boring! I learned very little.

So off I went searching for a distro that I can learn Linux on, and found Slackware, the oldest running Linux distro. Slackware does not have...

Introduction

Since I have a blog on here, it makes sense to make some use of it. Never having a blog before this is going to be very experimental. I plan on structuring this blog as a journal of my Linux experience. Hopefully people will find this blog helpful and/or entertaining reading about my struggles and triumphs.
