Mandriva Security and sudo setup.

Posted 11-04-2010 at 02:03 AM by GlennsPref

Hi I have compiled a document that may help those concerned with security settings using Mandriva 2010.1 x86_64

Due to space requirements I have posted it on blogspot.

It's been on my list to do for a while now, to publish this.

I hope it helps you decide.

I had to put it on my blog due to space requirements. (Screen shots.) It up on LQ too.

Here's the link...

Anxious..

Posted 11-03-2010 at 11:05 PM by peonuser

Can not wait to get some l293d chips on Friday. Do some serious robot building this weekend.

Listened to the "Cooking for Geeks" Author on Tllts. Talked about pretty much the same as the cnet interview.

Usually cook up a feast at Thanksgiving. Probably pass on it and just have something simple if not go out to eat.

Un-met Expectations -- a real example

Posted 11-03-2010 at 07:24 PM by SaintDanBert

It seems that suspend-to-ram ("suspend" or "sleep") and suspend-to-disk ("hibernate") requires that the workstation get installed with a swap partition -- not file, partition.

Moreover, the partition must meet size requirements. Specifically, the partition size must be base plus lagnaippe. The base must be at least as large as the physical ram installed in the workstation.
The lagnaippe is a little extra swap space in case any of the swap space...

Un-met Expectations and End-User Experience with Linux

Posted 11-03-2010 at 07:03 PM by SaintDanBert

I believe that most frustration and disappointment with computer anything stems from un-met expectations. Let me offer a trivial example from the real world.

All of us have put some food product into a micro-wave oven -- bag popcorn springs to mind. We punch the usual buttons, listen for the popping to start then stop, eager to enjoy the snack. Most of us have experienced that burned bag situation when either the popcorn product or the micro-wave oven or both conspire to yield results...

qemu-system-arm experience

Today I've finally managed to take some time to RTFM and launch fedora-arm in qemu. Why fedora and not armedslack? Well... For some funny unknown reason neither armedslack 13.1 nor -current kernels won't boot at all(it just halts after "decompessing linux, booting...") while fedora's old 2.6.22 one boots with no problems.
I'm looking forward to learn it a bit further, build a newer kernel for qemu and then re-attempt to boot into armedslack rootfs with it.
Currently looking...
