Bug #1 in My Family: The fact that I don't have a say in how rules are made

Posted 01-26-2011 at 08:21 PM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

Rules in moderation are okay in my opinion. Especially those here on LQ, since they help to keep those who troll about proprietary operating systems off these forums. They're also good at school, since they help to keep violence out of the school and keep kids safe.

However, the one place rules are *not* okay (especially if I don't have a say in how they're made) is the very place in which I live. Sure, those that are critical to my safety (such as *not* running out in front of a...

Playing Nicely

Posted 01-26-2011 at 02:56 PM by beetleman64 (Sensible World of Linux)

The announcement that versions of Ubuntu from 11.10 will be shipping with Qt has caused a little furore in the Linux world, as they are attempting to bridge what looks like a fairly wide chasm. Obviously, those in the know will be aware that Qt and GTK+ (the toolkit currently included with Ubuntu) are used by KDE and GNOME respectively, and both have very different design philosophies.

But while this looks impossible, I have to admire Canonical and the Ubuntu community for their efforts....

gloves for my feet - part 2

Posted 01-25-2011 at 03:06 PM by Tinkster

The fivefingers are truly amazing. Reached a stage where
I can wear them for extended periods of time on a daily
basis, doing my walks around town and on bush-walks within
the city on a regular basis.

My feet hate being in "normal shoes", even my extra wide
asics feel unpleasantly tight.

I think my posture has improved, and my muscles (calves
and hamstrings) are now coping well w/ the "unusual exercise".

Re-installing...because of a MOUSE problem!

I decided to completely re-install Arch from scratch on my lappy (save for keeping the /home partition of course).

Why? Mouse issues. Specifically, the newest Synaptic touchpad driver that came with the update to Xorg 1.9. I've been having a hell of a time getting the sensitivity correct (first it was too slow, then too fast), and the pointer would also stutter on occasion (I even posted in the Linux - Desktop forum about this little issue; still hasn't received any replies)....
