Upgrading VirtualBox PUEL 2.0.6 to 2.1.2 on ubuntu 8.04.1

Posted 01-26-2009 at 03:53 AM by catkin

Hello

Many people have posted on the 'net, describing VirtualBox PUEL upgrade as straightforward. My experience of several upgrades was very different with quite some breakage, repair and grief Here's the procedure I have evolved by experimentation to make it less painful, more routine. Several of the specifics (paths, virtual machine name WXP, Kaspersky, TweakUI, and my personal user name is c on ubuntu and C on WXP virtual) will be different on other systems but it should...

Trying to get madwifi to compile

Posted 01-25-2009 at 05:29 PM by ctroyer

Anyone have any luck getting madwifi v0.9.4 to compile? According to the notes at madwifi-project.org, and at sourceforge, the sourceforge files are deprecated and the suggestion is to download the latest from madwifi-project.org.
Cool, but the link on madwifi-project.org - "Click here to Download madwifiv0.9.4!" redirects to - you guessed it - Sourceforge! Yay. Running in circles.

Playing with Little Distros

Posted 01-25-2009 at 12:18 AM by SrDorothy

I've spent the past week to 10 days trying out different small linux distros...not all of them by a long shot! Linux adventure

I am somewhat of a novice at the family of operating systems, but I'm getting there. You know you haven't too far to go when even other experienced users ask you for help. I feel fairly accomplished, having installed over a dozen distinct versions of Gnu-Linux, and was able to do everything I used to do in Windoze. This is a good thing.

madwifi-project.org

Posted 01-24-2009 at 10:10 AM by ctroyer

OK, my mistake. The madwifi.org site is the old obsolete one; I read all about their hosting issues before, when I was looking for ndiswrapper alternatives.
At the new site, madwifi-project.org, they have all the new information. Looks to me like the madwifi driver is the one I need to use, since the ath5k driver does not support my AR5005G card yet. Like I said before, I'd rather use the newer ath5k driver - as it is all open source, but I'm no zealot, and I just really want this dang...
