K. Mandla, archon of the wonderful blog Motho ke motho ka botho suggested, when I inquired for help installing CRUX, that I try installing Arch Linux first & use some of Arch's system-querying stuff to help with the kernel configuration stage of the CRUX installation.

And so, I wiped the partition that was causing me headaches and re-created it, and installed grub via Arch since lilo just didn't seem to be able to handle two Linux installations.

What Drug is in Ubuntu?

So, I've tried so many distros that i can't remember them all. I still have 2 spindles of CDs and DVDs with older copies of various ones on them. When I found Ubuntu, I thought of how nice it was to be able to get Debian with a bit extra.

I've tried a lot more distros since I found Ubuntu, but its been the main one and has resided on my hard drive as the king of my computer. In fact, I believe that this computer is running an upgrade from 6.10, which was upgraded to 7.04,which...

Mepis and Cups

I've been running Mepis 6.5 on a couple of computers that are 'in-between'--not the slowest but also not the fastest. And generally it has been a good choice. Once I figured out that I had to unmark the non-free flash plugin when I did updates, the multimedia worked fine. I usually check 3 websites:, and an online mahjong site--if all those work, I'm good.

Recently, though, I found that one of these computers was not able to print to the networked printer...

MS Office 2007 SP2 ODF formula support broken

So, according to Microsoft, Windows 7 will require 15 GB disk space. I thought it was going to be slimmed down compared to Vista? Looks like the diet pills aren't working. When you consider that a full install of Slackware 12.2 takes around 4.8 GB, and has loads of varied software included, it makes you think, huh? I mean, Notepad and the few other odd'n'sods of basic software you get with a default Windows install can't take up a lot of space. I had no interest in using Vista, and the same applies...
