Reinstalling Linux due to a slip up with the W7 RC installer.

Yeah, I am testing out Windows 7, because I enjoy testing new things out.

One of the irks was that I had delete all the partitions I had in order to install this spoiled child. Creating a partition in free space of 100GB of a 200GB drive (50GB was used for Linux, and another for another installation of Windows) would yield nothing but errors.

Deleting of the other Windows partition would allow me to create a partition of that space. But to create a partition in the...

Wellcome to perfect defeat?

Posted 05-09-2009 at 07:07 AM by AGer (Void cries or bashing time)

In ancient Chinese classification "perfect victory" is one when the defeated side does not know there was a battle and it has been defeated. Using that as the definition of "perfect defeat", I wonder if desktop Linux is heading one.

Many new members stumble at LQ desperately looking for help with a failed server or after getting stuck following a HOWTO.
Most fall into the temptation (of amateurs) of thinking that you get quick help by "shouting out 'HELP'".

The general populacy (those not intellectually privileged) believe that they can ploy the same attention seeking tactics they use in near/in sight (mouth-to-mouth) conversations, to out of sight (forums) conversations. For example, they think...

Trying Mepis

Posted 05-08-2009 at 04:52 AM by uinseann

Well, I got hold of the DVD from Linux Format Magazine yesterday. I decided; out of interest and after making a disk image of my system (on my Toshiba Equium laptop which is nothing special but works fine) using "ping" to install PCLinuxOS. The DVD comes up with a menu to boot PCLinuxOS live CD, Mepis live CD, well actually a few different ways of running Mepis, a standard way and one that let you run Mepis by letting it use all your ram if you have 1GB and over. There was also ZenWalk,...

MinMenu 0.10.0 Released

Posted 05-07-2009 at 05:20 PM by CoderMan

The source code for MinMenu 0.10.0 is available at http://indicium.us/cgi-bin/pages/get?view=minmenu.

The primary functional change is that the color themes for MinMenu have been moved into a separate plain-text file, which can be edited by the end user. End users may modify existing color themes or create new ones, and immediately select those themes from their local configuration file.

If you do create a color theme which you like, please e-mail it to me at webmaster@indicium.us...
